Andy, Recently tried disaster recovery from one of these. Not easy at all. Did it in the end but question if it is worth the hassle. Our test was an exercise. In a live situation .... DBA would be dead Regards Malcolm -----Original Message----- From: owner-informix-list@iiug.org [mailto:owner-informix-list@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Andy Lennard Sent: 13 May 2004 10:26 To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Using an autoloader tape drive to receive level-0 archives? I guess there must be an easy answer to this, but I can't find it... If an autoloader is used to receive a level-0 archive, would I need to use any 'custom software' on a Solaris2.6 server running IDS 7.31? Or do the tapes just follow each other in sequence, as if by magic, so long as set the correct parameters in the onconfig. Many thanks, Andy. sending to informix-list
Well, at the risk of getting flamed, you can always put a storage
manager inbetween onbar and the autoloader . . .

Never had a problem with this approach and just installed it on customer site this week and they are happy and the restores are straightforward. One wonderful little gotcha though, during testing there was a very little instance and so we used a small tape size to test the tape advancing etc. If the physlog can't fit on a single tape you can't restore:-)) or at least in our Solaris 8/IDS 7.31 environment.
