Enterprise Replication General Error
Posted in 2008
Poster asked whether Enterprise Replication can run between two instances on the same physical box (IDS 10.0, HP-UX 11i); his first replication server defined fine, but 'cdr define server' for the second failed with "General Error (-1)". Respondents confirmed co-hosted ER (and even HDR, with relative paths) is possible, and suggested checking sqlhosts/services entries, connecting via TCP rather than shared memory, reading the online message log, upgrading (10.xC9 improved vague -1/100 errors), and retrying with the environment set to g_rep2 using 'cdr define server -I -S g_rep1 g_rep2' without -c. No confirmation of a fix is recorded in the thread.

Hi folks, Is it possible to replicate from one instance to another on the same physical machine? I created one replication server OK but I'm getting "command failed -- General Error (-1) (-1)" when running cdr define server on the second replication server. Cheers R

Are your services/SQL hosts files set up correctly and are you trying to connect between the servers using TCP rather than SHM? Keith

HDR can be on the same machine, just use relative as opposed to absolute paths, and start in the relevant directory which contains the root path However, for the above issue : 1. Version of IDS?? 2. Platform (although irrelevant here really). 3. Provide your sqlhosts and also the cdr command (and also DBSERVERNAME / DBSERVERALIAS entries) Hmmm haaa, where is my potato!

Thanks for the info guys - well here's the details

hp-ux 11i

sqlhosts
g_rep1 group - - i=101
rep1 onsoctcp paragon3 infxrep1 g=g_rep1
g_rep2 group - - i=102
rep2 onsoctcp paragon3 infxrep2 g=g_rep2
cdr command
cdr define server -c g_rep2 -I -S g_rep1 g_rep2
cdr list server
SERVER ID STATE STATUS QUEUE CONNECTION
CHANGED
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
g_rep1 101 Active Local 0
my config file (onconfig.rep2)
DBSERVERNAME rep2 # Name of default database server
DBSERVERALIASES # List of alternate dbservernames

Check the online message log. I'd also check to ensure that the sqlhost file is correct.

Try setting the env to g_rep2 and doing :
cdr define server -I -S g_rep1 g_rep2
