I think the reason is that these are the two major Unix players for Internet systems and Web applications will be the immediate big sellers for IUS. Informix bought the technology, which I suppose could be called innovating, and they also lucked out in that Michael Stonebraker's figurative progeny created Informix with a compatible architecture to what Stonebrakers went on to use for Illustra. They also lucked out that Ingres was so poorly marketed and managed over the years and that OODBMSes never caught on.
