RE: accessing another database on another machine
Posted in 1999
Hi Garnadi, As you are running Informix DB's on both machines then you need to use INFORMIX-STAR (I-STAR) to communicate between each Database. I believe in Informix 7.* that I-STAR will automatically work for you as long as you have the following key files set up correctly on each machine: 1) /etc/hosts 2) $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts (or whatever file your $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS points to - but this is the default) 3) /etc/services There should be a chapter in the Informix Administrator's Guide called "The sqlhosts file or registry" which shows the relationship between these files - look under the sub-heading "Network Communication with TCP/IP" - I use version 7.31 but you should have a similar chapter in your book. Just out of interest, prior to Informix 7.31 I was using Online 5.* and a seperate I-STAR daemon had to be running on each machine(sqlexecd) for the comms to work but 7.* has eliminated the need for these. Any problems let me know as I have configured a similar scenario to what you are after.
