Failover setup

We have production databases, informix 11.10.FC2 on SLES 10, currently w/o failover servers. We are deciding upon the type of failover setup (HDR/ER) to be set for these servers. Some databases are in "no logging" mode (due to business requirements) while some are using blobspaces. what are the factors to decide upon the type of failover? Does HDR work for no logging dbs and blobspaces?
Hello. Maybe this table could help you, ER feature is not intended to solve failover questions, really. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v117/topic/com.ibm.admin.doc/id s_admin_1381.htm Regards. You cannot use any kind of replication for a database that is unlogged except archive and restore. For those databases, without logical logs, your copy will always be behind the production instance. Logged databases with blobspace blobs (TEXT & BYTE type columns created IN <blobspace>) will not replicate using HDR or RSS and cannot participate in a writable SDS secondary. You can only replicate blobspace blobs using ER and only if the database has logging turned on. With the sole exception of data warehouse instances, all databases should be logged and so support transactions. Art Art S. If your database is not using logging, then the best you can do is to t= ake advantage of disk replication to an alternate location. You will need = to ensure that the disk replication is done using ordered IO across all of= the disks which make up your database. --- that is, the disk replication = must be done in the same order as the writes on the main system. Also, the = disk replication must be over all of the disks comprising the primary system= and the order must be maintained across those set of disks. You can have informix installed at the target site, but it can not be running. You = can only bring the instance up at the secondary site if the primary is down= . = = From: "SUSHANT KODE" <ksushants@gmail.com> = = = = To: ids@iiug.org = = = = Date: 04/09/2012 01:38 AM = = = = Subject: Failover setup [26685] = = = = Sent by: ids-bounces@iiug.org = = = = We have production databases, informix 11.10.FC2 on SLES 10, currently = w/o failover servers.
