If you are going to calculate supply and demand you need 2 figures, supply
and demand. You can not continue to point to the multitude of online job
postings that contain the word Oracle in the description and suggest that
Oracle DBAs can easily find good paying jobs to cover their mortgage without
quantifying the number of Oracle DBAs competing for these jobs.
If the number of Oracle jobs is 2000 but there are 8000 Oracle DBAs
available to fill these positions then this is a bad thing for the Oracle
professional looking for work. On the other hand, if there are 8 Informix
opennings and 2 Informix DBAs available then this is a good thing for the
Informix professional looking for a job switch.
I make no claim that these numbers are accurate, but they do follow the
80/20 rule so they must be close. I am simply demonstrating how your
references to the online job sites are meaningless until you can provide all
relevant inputs to the Supply and Demand equation.
