KAIO

Hi all, on some websites, you can read wonderful things concerning KAIO, like dramatically better performance in high-traffic-scenarios. Linux Kernel 2.6 supports KAIO. I talked to a Beta-Tester of IDS Version 9.4 UC5, which supports KAIO under Linux 2.6. He told me, that there is no appreciable performance-benefit when using KAIO. Does anyone know, whether that's because of a bad informix-implenattaion of KAIO, or a of bad linux-implementation of KAIO? Is KAIO really such a magic bullet? Thanks in advance! Bye Markus

I have 9.40.UC5 running on SuSE 9.2 (kernel 2.6.8) and there's no KAIO. Maybe there's a hidden parameter to turn it on. Are you sure your beta tester isn't using 9.50? > Does anyone know, whether that's because of a bad informix-implenattaion of > KAIO, or a of bad linux-implementation of KAIO? > Is KAIO really such a magic bullet? KAIO works well on AIX and is a definite improvement over not using KAIO. Ben.
Hi Ben, ok, may be its Version 9.5, because the Beta-Tester told me, that it's not currently released and that it will be released in the first quarter of 2005. What do you mean by "definite improvement" ? An improvement of 5% is not reason enough (for me) to switch from linux to aix- or solaris-based hardware. We currently work on a 2xXeon-Dell-Server (Linux 2.4) and consider to change to solaris9 on a 4xSparc64-Machine. Thanks!
