Re: |We have recently purchased a Data General Aviion 8500 server |running DG/UX (Rev 3.10.M02) and preparing to install the |Informix Online Dynamic Server (version 7.01). The DG server has |12 - 2GB fast/wide SCSI-2 hard disks housed in a sub-system |server by 4 NCR SCSI-2 controllers. I would like to know the |most efficient way to setup the raw disk areas with 2GB and |larger databases (for a data warehousing application) to maximize |disk reads. (i.e., striping across disks, piecing the raw |partition across disks, etc.). Does anyone have experience in |configuring the Data General for use with the Informix Online |Engine? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have no experience with DG, but I would think the same principles apply to most platforms - for a 2 GB database I would go for the simpler option of separating the rootdbs, the logdbs and the actual database dbs onto separate disks. If, however, you have a couple of very large tables in the database, you could also consider spreading those over a couple of disks. With 12 by 2 GB F/W disks with 4 controllers, I shouldn't think you'll have too much of a problem with I/O, unless you have *loads* of users/transactions/very badly written reports :) HTH, Richard Ridley
