Re: Safe way to drop and re-create table?

Looks good to me. I am not one of the "gurus", but that is the way I have done
it on unix, on versions from 4.x to 7.2x (the different versions have not made
much difference to me for this operation). I have found that creating the
indexes after populating saves a huge amount of time.
Previous postings seem to have reached a consensus that dbload is better than
load if you have a large amount of data, both because it gives you the option to
log and continue past any data errors, and because it allows you to commit
periodically, thus avoiding "long transaction" problems.

Subject: Safe way to drop and re-create table?
7.3x, unix
I want to do the following
save a table schema
drop it
recreate it without indexes
populate the table
create the indexes
I'm thinking of doing it by doing a dbschema to a text file, splitting
the file into two SQL files :
1. "the bit before the first create index statement"
2. "the bit from and including the first create index statement"
Then use these sql files in the appropriate steps outlined above.
Does this sound like a good/safe approach?
Is there a better one?
