Even though any freed pages are not returned to the free pool, the ti_npdata value should still reflect the number of data pages actually in use. That is, if one deletes all the rows in the table, the ti_npdata should go to 0, even though all the pages allocated to the table are not released. The only reason I can think of why ti_npdata would not go down after deleting a large number of rows is that you have managed to delete all these rows without actually freeing up any data pages. That is, you have managed to leave at least one remaining row on every data page that was allocated. OnLine does not re-organize your rows to fit them onto fewer pages when you have deleted them. If you had 100 data pages used, and delete 99% of your data, but by some fluke managed to do this in a way that leaves one row on each page, then your ti_npdata will not go down.
