You are still using the buffers, you are just flushing them after each transaction. The smaller they are, the more often they will flush. It really depends on the size of your transaction data. For unbuffered logging you might even consider making the buffers larger, because you know they will flush at the end of the transaction anyway. It depends on your transaction size, the number of transactions and the performance you are looking for.
