I also did it for only a dozen tables, not 1000+. To move from Informix to Oracle, I wrote Informix 4GL reports that created Oracle SQL*Loader control and data files. I then used SQL*Loader to load the data into Oracle. Since the table structures changed very slightly between the two DBs, I handled the table changes as part of the report writing process; i.e., Informix reports "knew" about the table changes, but Oracle only dealt with correctly formatted SQL*Loader files. To go in the other direction, I would use either SQL*Plus or SQL*Report to write DBLoad control files and data. For such a large number of tables I would probably use the same tools to also build a script to run DBLoad the appropriate number of times with the correct combinations of control and data files. One final caveat: Don't expect to make the data transfer in one trip. Design your data unloaders and data loaders to work incrementally. I found this necessary with a database only a few percent the size of yours. Good luck, Alan ___________________________ ______________________| R.
