I am about to embark upon a project to upgrade from 11.5 to 12.0. The old
machine is AIX and the new machine is LINUX - therefore we are going from one
"endian-ness" to a different "endian-ness".
I am expecting to have to unload and reload via ascii tables to handle this.
The database is aprrox 1400 tables, 400 million rows, 200GB
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which tools I might use to make this
happen as fast as possible? UNLOAD and LOAD are the obvious ones. I'm guessing
I can't use dbimport / dbexport due to the OS change.
DB-Export and DB-Import are platform neutral, using UNLOAD format data for
the exchange. They are a logical pair of programs to use, unless you want
to try the code from Art Kagel's utilities.

Ray: You can definitely use dbexport & dbimport to do this which will be
MUCH easier than managing UNLOAD and LOAD yourself.
If you want more speed, get my dbexport/dbimport replacement utility in the
myexport package from the IIUG Software Repository. It optionally uses
external tables for the data unload and reload which is MUCH faster than
dbexport/dbimport. In addition, myexport and myimport can work in parallel
working on <N> tables at once. If your machine and IO systems have the
capacity to export two or more tables in parallel without slowing down that
will be two or more times faster than dbexport/dbimport. Myexport is
compatible with dbexport and dbimport. You an use myexport and dbimport
the data or dbexport the data and use myimport to reload it, though using
myexport with myimport in parallel mode is fastest.
If you decide to give myexport a try, you will need my utils2_ak package
because it uses my myschema utility to get the database schema. You will
also need Jonathan Leffler's sqlcmd utility package. Myimport uses sqlcmd
to create the database on the target system.

You can use "select from.......insert into", making sure that all tables are
created in raw mode, then create other objects after the loads are complete. I
have done that, and also used ESQL/C programs to do the same.
