Stored Procedure in Java

With IDS 9.x, it seems that stored procedures can be written in Java also. Is there any performance implication of writing stored procedures in Java. Is the feature support equivalent to that of PL/SQL.
Gurpreet:
Stored procedures written in Java or C will tend to outperform SPL
procedures when there is significant calculation involved. Prior to v11.70
Java procedures were preferred to procedures written in C because the
latter could not be run in parallel, but since 11.70 allows for the shared
libraries containing the C procedures to be pre-loaded into memory by the
initial oninit process before it spawns its children that is no longer an
issue.
For procedures that primarily execute server functionality, like fetching
data or executing built-in functions, SPL procedures will tend to be at
least as good as C or Java procedures.
