reverting from IDS 10 to IDS 9.4?

Hi everyone. I know that when you upgrade from IDS 9.4 to IDS 10 (as well as going from any IDS release to a higher release) that Informix performs any necessary conversions of the database files automatically as soon as you bring up the engine with the higher version. But is this also true in reverse? For example what if, during an upgrade from say IDS 9.4 to IDS 10 you needed to backout? If you needed to backout and you point INFORMIXDIR back to the original (older 9.4) version is Informix sophisticated enough to convert the database back to the 9.4 version? If that were true then technically there would be no need to perform backups of the database before you did the upgrade also. Any thoughts on this? thanks, Will
No, you have to perform the reversion using the higher version by running
"onmode -b 9.40" to revert the structures from 10.00 format (which naturally
IDS 9.40 knows nothing about) to 9.40 format.

Hi Art. Thanks. Yes...onmode -b 9.4 as is stated so eloquently in the IDS 10 migration guide which I read and then subsequently forgot :) Thanks again.
