While we're all high-fiving at how well IDS did in the VendorRate assessment, has anyone looked at the last two vendors on page 4? :o) -- Cheers, Obnoxio The Clown http://obotheclown.blogspot.com -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is believed to be clean.

One could think that the scary result of IBM Global Services is probably the reason why IBM doesn't get it's ass up and promote this report with the excellent Informix results. But honestly who cares about good or bad results for IBM as long as IBM (marketing) makes this world a smarter planet :-)

IBM now has a negative revenue trend. Their profits are due to extreme cost cutting, and labor reallocation to geographies that have lower cost centers per employee. Here's the fun part. When Sam P retires in a year. The next guy in charge is going to take a serious hit and its not going to be pretty. IBM does the bulk of their revenue (All divisions) within their aligned and integrated accounts. But what happens when these billion dollar outsourcing deals are up for renegotiations? Clients will demand further discounts and cite poorer customer sat as an issue. This means that at the next round of negotiations, IBM is going to have a further reduction in revenue. Of course CSC or Accenture will also come in as column fodder and could knock IBM out of Column A. (See Suzane Gates, I do know my SSM better than you thought. ;-) IBM is failing to strike gold in the white space. Those are the big companies that do not have a large IBM presence but can afford to buy enough IT products and services to get decent levels of discount. (Again, this is why they should have bought Sun.) This would have opened the door to increased revenue opportunties. But here again, S&D comes up short. I've already mentioned one customer incident, where IBM shot themselves in the foot. (Northern Trust) Here's another... Merchants Exchange. While many won't know the name Merchants Exchange, the true problem is that many in the Chicago Financial district know the story. While it has nothing to do with IDS, it was yet another Global Services / Account team fsck up of grand proportions. (Read: There was NO EXCUSE for their stupidity.) IBM has a problem in that they brand only IBM. This means that if the report is a negative for IBM as a whole, IBM will not promote it. Sorry IDS, you have to take one for the team. Of course doesn't it make you wonder how much support and effort that they are really putting behind IDS when in fact their own sales force can't even spell IDS? Oh you sheep, lap up the blue cool aid and follow your shepherds to slaughter. But hey! What do I know? Its not like I had to sit through two client meetings and take the full wrath of the client for something my team had no responsibility for. Oh wait, I did. And that was only the ones that I've mentioned publicly. ;-) -G _________________________________________________________________ NEW mobile Hotmail. Optimized for YOUR phone.
