Which DB monitoring tool do you recommend?
Posted in 2009
A DBA running IDS 10.00.FC5 on HP-UX PA-RISC wanted a third-party performance monitoring tool, since OAT wasn't an option for IDS 10 and he didn't want to parse onstat output himself. Suggestions included DBSonar (reportedly well reviewed) and AGS Server Studio/Sentinel, which ships with IDS with a free 60-day evaluation licence (contact AGS for a fresh licence file). One list member also offered a home-grown ESQL/C monitoring program plus cron scripts, and was encouraged to upload it to the IIUG Software Repository. The original poster never says which he chose. The rest of the thread is off-topic list-unsubscribe chatter.

Good afternoon,
I'm an Informix IDS 10.00.FC5 shop on HPUX PA-RISC platform. I am
interesting in performance monitoring of my IDS engine. I cannot use
OAT because I'm on the IDS 10 platform, and I also have no patience for
writing my own tool to munge through various onstat outputs. What 3rd
party performance monitoring tool do you use at your organization, or
what 3rd party tool would you recommend?
Thanks in Advance for any advice.

Dbsonar has been getting pretty good reviews.

Check out AGS's Server Studio and Sentinel. You got a free full featured
60day evaluation license (and the software) included in your IDS
distribution. Contact AGS (www.serverstudio.com) to get a new license file
if the existing one doesn't work any longer. If you like the product, buy
it, it is not outrageously expensive and is the best tool on the market for
the job. If you are attending the IIUG Conference April 26-29 plan to
attend the free full day seminar on using Server Studio that I will be
conducting for AGS.

Hello
I actually have written a monitoring tool that is an ESQL/C progam. It
monitors a number of different things and I run scripts via cron throughout
the day to make sure that no threahholds are breeched. I have the prorgam and
some monitor scripts available if you are interested.
You can write to me at walterlowich@yahoo.com.

Steve,
Do you wish to be removed from the IDS mail list? If so you need to log
into the www.iiug.org website and edit your mail list options in the member
services area.
If you want to be removed from all informix mailings from the IIUG, you need
to send an email to webmaster@iiug.org.
Thanks!
