RE: Memory allocation failed during query processing -AIX 5.1

you may need to issues few onstat commands (onstat -g seg, onstat -g mgm,
onstat -g mem, onstat -u, onstat -g ses, onstat -g sql ) to see what exactlyis happening with the query, it may be also possible that the kernel
parameters are not set right.
you may also set DS_MAX_QUERIES and DS_TOTAL_MEMORY to some values in the
onconfig, to start with i would set DS_MAX_QUERIES to 10 and DS_TOTAL_MEMORY
to 200000.
also, make sure there are no hung shared memory segments, may issue 'ipcs'
command to find this.

here is what we have in our onconf file:
# Parallel Database Queries (pdq)
MAX_PDQPRIORITY 80 # Maximum allowed pdqpriority (was 100)
DS_MAX_QUERIES # Maximum number of decision supportqueries
DS_TOTAL_MEMORY # Decision support memory (Kbytes)
DS_MAX_SCANS 1048576 # Maximum number of decision support scans
DATASKIP off # List of dbspaces to skip

have you turned on PDQ?, is the DS_TOTAL_MEMORY set greater than SHMTOTAL
in
the onconfig?. also, may need to check SHMADD onconfig parameter.

Subject: Memory allocation failed during query processing -AIX 5.1
A process failed on AIX 5.1, IDS 7.31 UD6 with this error:
-208 Memory allocation failed during query processing.
The database server needed to allocate data-space memory in order to
process the query, but none was available. This error may reflect a
hardware limit, an operating-system configuration limit, or a temporary
shortage of space.
We had PLENTY of memory left so I'm not sure why the process couldn't get
data-space memory. What can I tweak and how can I see the problem
happening?
