Hello everybody.
I appeal to you for ideas and tips to guide me on what to look for. I
attend to an Informix server 9.4 FC9 on a Solaris Sparc host. It has
been working with low workload; a few users consulted for concentrated
data. Then, we had to create some databases and give access to many more
users. Not to much, anyway.
In coincidence with that, it begun this problem. After been working
normaly, suddenly stop receiving connections and the only thing I see in
the online.log is
16:32:50 listener-thread: err = -27001: oserr = 0: errstr = : Read
error occurred during connection attempt.
16:32:52 listener-thread: err = -27001: oserr = 0: errstr = : Read
error occurred during connection attempt.
16:33:50 Fuzzy Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds, 139
buffers not flushed.
16:33:50 Checkpoint loguniq 98226, logpos 0x7aa754, timestamp:
0xf2f5b22
16:33:50 Maximum server connections 279
16:33:53 listener-thread: err = -27001: oserr = 0: errstr = : Read
error occurred during connection attempt.
16:33:55 listener-thread: err = -27001: oserr = 0: errstr = : Read
error occurred during connection attempt.
Maximum server connections is a different number on each case.
The only way to recover the service is shuting down and start up
Informix.
As reference, this is a fragment from onconfig
SERVERNUM 1 # Unique id corresponding to a OnLineinstance
DBSERVERNAME nacional_net # Name of default database serverDBSERVERALIASES nacional_shm,mutec_net # List of alternate
dbservernames
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,300,CPU # Configure poll thread(s) for nettype
NETTYPE tlitcp,3,300,NET # Configure poll thread(s) for nettype
DEADLOCK_TIMEOUT 60 # Max time to wait of lock indistributed env.
RESIDENT 1
mutec_net is an alias we added to receive all of new user connections.
The sqlhosts file is
nacional_net ontlitcp thishost.thisdomain.com. sqlexec_net
g=nacional
nacional_shm onipcshm thishost.thisdomain.com. sqlexec_shm
g=nacional
mutec_net ontlitcp thishost.thisdomain.com. sqlexec_lyf
g=nacional
and /etc/services
sqlexec_shm 1525/tcp
sqlexec_net 1526/tcp
sqlexec_lyf 1527/tcp
The affinity for procesors, from the online.log
13:26:31 On-Line Mode
13:26:31 Affinitied VP 1 to phys proc 0
13:26:31 Affinitied VP 3 to phys proc 2
13:26:31 Affinitied VP 5 to phys proc 18
13:26:31 Affinitied VP 4 to phys proc 16
I also noted the BOUND state from the netstat -an command, on some
connections. This state I don't see it on another informix hosts.
159.16.78.9.1526 *.* 0 0 49152 0
BOUND
159.16.78.9.1527 *.* 0 0 49152 0

I will appreciate your help, if you can tell me what should I verify on
Informix config or on Solaris config.
Hello!
It seems that your connections limit (the last was):
16:33:50 Maximum server connections 279
Might be overflowing. Are your clients using ipcshm connections ???
If so, I suggest you to increase your ipcshm buffers, the amount will
depend on how many connections you must support.
There are several messages about these calculations on past issues here, ok?
Best regards.
