Accessing data from other servers

Hi Team,
We run Online (IDS) on SCO OpenServer (Unix) and often connect to a database
then query from other databases on remote servers. For example:
database business;
select count(*) from room_type; -- local query
select count(*) from business@business_fr_dbsrv:lmn.room_type; -- remotequery
This works once you've sorted out:
/etc/hosts.equiv
/etc/hosts (or your name server)
/etc/services
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts
DBALIASES in onconfig
As I say, we do this all the time. Is there any reason why this should not
work between different versions of the engine? It works when I connect to
the 7.23.UC6 engine and query the 7.30.UC2, but I cannot get it to work from
7.30.UC2 to 7.23.UC6. I keep getting the -908 error :-(
Paul.
I do this between 7.31, 7.30, 7.24, & 7.21 and across servers running on
DG M88k, DG Pentium, and Sun. Should work for 7.30 to 7.23 also.

Problem solved. The configuration was correct.... but I'd forgotten there was a firewall between the two database machines and it was not letting the connection through on the required port :-( Another thing to add to the list to check.
