Re: [Fwd: Connecting to ONLINE server is very slow]

The reason for slow conection through tcp/ip is your nameserver configuration. Just check that the name resolution is Ok (I'd check both direct and reverse name resolution). Try to find the host address using nslookup (dig) or just run the command "telnet yourhostname", where hostname is the host name you have configured in your sqlhosts file. The telnet should connect to host in 20-30 seconds. In nslookup you can try finding out what is the lookup process by setting "set debug". Usually such behaviour is observed on hosts not conneced to internet and that have a in their root.cache named file the list of internet root servers. One way to get a fast nameserver lookup is to correct this root.cache file and to leave there just a reference to your host. Another way is to try to set up a correct configuration in resolv.conf file.
