Also Oracle's main revenue is still the database license. If the margins evaporate due to agressive pricing, the stock price will go to the basement (right now it is in the first floor, down from 50th floor few years back). Remember IBM is a monster and is into various sectors, from services to hardware. MS is also in various business, though only in software. Oracle is limited to database and applications. Their application business is hardly growing. And they are getting squeezed by extremely agressive pricing of SQLServer/DB2. To me his hostile take over of PS seems to be a desperate action.

I'm not sure that it is true that Oracle's main source of revenue is the database license. It wasn't the last time I checked. Isn't for IBM on DB2 either. Oracle's stock price is the concern of stockholders ... not developers or DBAs. When I make my money from IBM stock rather than DB2 and Informix I'll care about IBM's stock price. Same goes for all of them. The market will flourish. Each individual company will have its ups and downs and that is not my problem. -- Daniel Morgan http://www.outreach.washington.edu/extinfo/certprog/oad/oad_crs.asp damorgan@x.washington.edu (replace 'x' with a 'u' to reply)
