Virtual Portion X Ontape

Hello
I'm having some problems with Ontape and virtual memory segments.
The parameters for the virtual portion of shared memory are tuned and
configured correctly. Even when all users are online and using the
applicatives, the value is enough and there is only one segment in
memory.
But when I perform an ontape -s (Archive level 0), then Online assigns
one, sometimes two or three additional segments of virtual memory. And
I don't know why is this happening. It is happening not on a single
machine, but in many others plattaforms that I'm monitoring.
Does anybody knows why this happens ???
Thanks in advance.

You do not state version or platform but I suspect 7.31. The onarchive
thread was changed in 7.31 to go through the server and determine, before
starting, what pages need to be archived and which do not. This involves
creating a data structure to hold the bitmaps and other system configuration
information in a way that the onarchive thread can use it and in a location
that is static, ie the data will not change during the archive. For a larger
server this allocation can certainly entail creating additional virtual
segments. If you want to you can fold them into your SHMVIRTSIZE but if the
additional shared memory is causing problems just add an 'onmode -F'
immediately following the archive in your archive instructions or scripts.
