Online database_names list

I need some help regarding getting a list of available database name in an Online environment. Currently I have written a shell script which will invoke 'isql' and use 'awk' command to extract the name of databases. (If anybody is interested in the shell script , just send me a mail). I have also found another way of getting the name of the databases from the informix online pages. I wrote a small 'C' program to read the data from the online page directly (DATABASE TBLSPACE) and use the slot information in that page to get the valid database names. The problem with the C program is whenever a database is dropped or created the information in the online page does not changes until the next checkpoint. I have to force the checkpoint using 'tbmode -c' ,which obviously takes some time, before reading the online page directly. Is there a way I can get the database names without going thru' all these difficulties in an Online environment. (I found a object file in lib/libfesql.a named iqgetdbs.o.
