Installing informix on Linux ..
Posted in 2004
Boris couldn't call ifx_connect() from PHP on Mandrake/Apache ("Call to undefined function"), despite having Informix SE and Client SDK installed and an informix.so extension built. Respondents advised building PHP with --with-informix (pointing at INFORMIXDIR), dropping the unnecessary --with-php-config option, checking that configure actually reports "yes" for Informix support, verifying php.ini/phpinfo() shows the extension loaded, and ensuring INFORMIXDIR and LD_LIBRARY_PATH are set in the environment where Apache/PHP starts. The thread ends with these suggestions; no confirmed fix is recorded.

After many, many lost hours - there is conclusion...
DOESN'T WORK ....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Summary:
I tried to establish php on my linux Mandrake and apache server. Besides I
need to access from my PHP files on linux to Informix database which is on
UNIX Tru64. So, when I try in my php script to connect to database Informix
(with ifx_connect function), there is an error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ifx_connect() in
/var/www/html/test.php on line 8
Informix SE and C SDK are correctly installed and extension is made
(informix.so)....
Connection from SE to Informix Server is OK and there is no problem, but
connection from php script (ifx_connect) - doesn't....
PLEASE HELP ANYONE...
THANK YOU
Boris
Did you --with-informix when you built PHP?

YESSSSS.....
There is syntax:
./configure --with-php-config=/usr/bin/php-config --with-informix=/opt/infor
mix
Make
Make install
After this extension was created...and positioned
This procedure created extension informix.so which is positioned in
//usr/lib/php/extensions...
But what it's wrong ? What is missing ?
Thanks

What does phpinfo() show? I've never add the path with the 'with-informix' option, I'm not sure that it is required. Is php.ini set correctly? What do you need from phpinfo()...?? I can send you what you need... Because PHP using ESQL part of Informix, THE EXTENSION MUST BE CREATED...That's the reason for --with-informix, as is said in Informix manual... What is neccessary in php.ini ? Maybe it's wrong ? you don't need " --with-php-config=/usr/bin/php-config "
take that out! you won't EVER need to mess with that.
Watch the output from the "configure" program, and look
for a "yes" for Informix support. If you don't see "yes"
keep debugging your environment.
You might have problems with your LD_LIBRARY_PATH or
your INFORMIXDIR variables. They may need to be set
ahead of the configure.
Google for my post at the beginning of this month on how
to install PHP.

Only if you need LD_LIBRARY_PATH do you need to set it.
I don't have Informix so I cannot be of total help on this.
You might need to use this syntax:
--with-informix=/opt/informix
pointing of course to where the top of the Informix tree starts.
Your Informix libs should be under this tree. You might need
to --with-informix=/opt/informix/lib , but the point is, keep
trying till configure finds the libs.
Let us all know what happens.
