What is DBSERVERNAME and DBSERVERALIASES set to in the onconfig file
for the instance you are trying to communicate with?

Is your serever really called demo_on? thats the name of the example
entry in the sqlhosts file.
what does the line corresponding to demo_on say in your sqlhosts file?
