Neil: Here's my two cents: 1. Set NUMCPUVP's = number physical CPU's. I know that's not the common wisdom, but I've tested the common wisdom on our 6 CPU Sparc 1000 (Sol 2.4), and the common wisdom is a load of hooey. (I also tested it a lot when it had 2 CPU's...) As many bufreads as you have, you gotta have >1 CPU. If so, life is about to get good.... 2. Assuming you did #1, leave MULTIPROCESSOR = 1, and set SINGLE_CPU_VP = 0. (Are these two redundant or are these two redundant???) 3. As much readahead as you do, make sure the vars are set liberally (50 - 100 min for both). Let me know how it works.
