Re: Informix c-isam ==> esql-c conversion ?

[ [ Our company has used c-isam to build proprietary databases. I recently [ mentioned the possibility of using esql-c instead of direct c-isam [ database creation / access functions. Along this line, I have several [ questions : [ [ 1. How much overhead might be introduced by switching [ over to esql-c in place of c-isam ? [ [ 2. Would our proprietary databases that already exist [ be easily converted to esql-c format ? [ [ Any input would be appreciated. If you prefer to, you can email [ directly to me at : [ [ dmick@va.wagner.com [ [ Thanks, [ Doug [ Hi Doug , U have taken a good decision .. esql-c is much more flexible and easy to maintain . Coverting ur C-ISAM database to Informix SE/ONL is not so difficult . U can write a general program to read all C-isam records and insert into Informix tables . Some tools may be available . I'm not sure . If u r using SE i can suggest onething , but i can't assure the success . Create Informix tables similar to ur Cisam files . Move the Cisam files to Informix flat files in the *.dbs directory . Run bcheck for all tables . Try ur luck . * Coming to the application , u have to replace ur cisam file handling functions with esql code. Best of luck ... Bye. Peter. -- \\|||/ Have a nice time ...
