ISM and LTO

Does anyone have any experiences with ISM and LTO? If ISM can't drive LTO drives can the raw disk space be backed up using AIX native 'backup' utility? I am thinking about writing everything to disk and backing it up to LTO, but Im not sure how that would work w/a restore if I just copy the data back to disk from tape???
