ILS utf8
Posted in 2012
A user new to GLS/ILS asked how to find out which locales (e.g. de_de.utf8) his Informix 11.70 install supports, and where to get ILS if needed. Answer: run the 'glfiles' utility, which silently writes the list of available locales to lc11.txt; if the wanted locale isn't listed, install ILS and rerun. He found de_de.utf8 already present, so no ILS needed. He also hit 'test: unknown operator ==' from glfiles under /bin/sh; changing '==' to '=' in the script fixed it, with others noting dash/ksh don't accept the bash-style '=='.

Hi, I have to play around with GLS/ILS (never needed so far), esp. with utf8. First, is there any way to determine which codes are support by GLS, for example de_de.utf8. Second, if I have to install ILS where may I find the download site. (Solaris10 and RHEL 5.8, Informix 11.70.FC5) TIA Reinhard
Hi, I think you can run the utility "glfiles". It usually is working quietly for a short time and then exits (also quietly) ... but by that time it has written its output into a local file named "lc11.txt". In this file you will find info about currently available locales. If you do not find, what you are looking for, then you probably should install the ILS. When re-running the "glfiles" utility after having installed ILS, the now additionally available locales should be listed as well. Hi,
thank you, Martin.
BTW: With IBM/Informix-Client SDK Version 3.70.FC5 Copyright (C)
1991-2012 IBM following error appears:
$ glfiles
/opt/informix/bin/glfiles: test: unknown operator ==
$ which glfiles
/opt/informix/bin/glfiles
$ vi /opt/informix/bin/glfiles
#!/bin/sh
...
Line 206, 207
#Read from GLS registry now by default
if [ "$DO_OLDLCNAMES" == "yes" ]
Change "==" into "="
Now the script ran. Perhaps you can create a PMR ;-)
In file lc11.txt I found:
Filename: lc11/de_de/e01c.lco
Language: German
Territory: Germany
Code Set: utf8
Locale Name: de_de.utf8 57372 # 0xe01c
Seems not necessary to install ILS :-)
Thank again
Reinhard.

Hi,
I got this when actualizing to a newer version of Debian once. They modified
the default shell (dash instead of bash).
This caused the problem (== is not documented but treated as = in bash, but
not in dash).

Certain ksh versions also have a problem with '=='. It's been deprecated
in ksh for many years but it persists because most versions still support
it. Considering that AIX's ksh is one of the ones that has dropped support
for '==' that you would think that IBM would catch that in code review!
