turbo-to-online
Posted in 1992
I realize this has been addressed before, but I didnt need to know til now! We are using Informix-SQL 2.10.03F under Turbo engine. Will soon be going to On-Line, as soon as we get maintenance update 4.1. We have heard that system administration under On-Line requires MANY more manhours, and much more tuning than our initial conversion to Turbo. We did ALOT of work going to Turbo, extent sizing, etc. and it paid off in very little day-to-day monitoring for our approx 100Mb systemof 40 users. Backups and logging have been running fine from scripts we wrote. Once in awhile I check turbo.log for possible hardware problems developing, but thats about it. We do have to re-format and keep disk squeaky clean every few months. (Unisys 5000/95 we have is notorious for blocks flaking out). DOES On-Line require more monitoring? What about the tragedy of too many locks which has appeared in this list as a warning several times, is it so? Any helpful hints appreciated. Thanks. PS: I know we are behind, but apparently Informix issues Unisys 5000/Dept. of Army sites our own platform. We are still waiting for 4.1! Thanks ahead. Ann Barnes.
