ON-Bar parallelization

Hello folks
I am looking at using onbar to take advantage of the parallelization.
Looking at the example at this address
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-0611sinha/index.ht
ml
the implication is onbar backs up the chunks in the dbpace in parallel.
I thought onbar backed up the dbspaces in parallel
the example
1.Example with Large dbspaces:
In this example, suppose we have,
userdbs1 40 GB
userdbs2 40 GB
userdbs3 20 GB
With layout as above, when Onbar is backing up userdbs1, only one thread is
associated with this backup. This will leave other Onbar threads idle.
Comments please suggestions
Hi Karl,
You should set de parameter in the onconfig file BAR_MAX_BACKUP to the number
of dbspaces you want to backup in parallel.
Do you have the rootdbs? It's recommended to keep the primary dbspace as
default named rootdbs. When the onbar starts it backs up the rootdbs first
alone, after it finishes, it starts the quantity configured in the
BAR_MAX_BACKUP in parallel. In my case I keep the rootdbs as small as I can.

Hi,
not sure which version of Informix Server you are using.
Please be aware that not all Editions allow ON-Bar
parallel operations. I think there were some changes to
this effect with the most recent licensing model.
Apart from this the parallelization of ON-Bar operation
is on the level of dbspaces (not chunks). I.e. backing
up several dbspaces with a single ON-Bar command
would backup these dbspaces in parallel. An exception
to this is the root dbspace. If it is within the group of
dbspaces to be backed up, then it will be backed up
first and alone. After its backup has finished other
dbspaces will then be backed up in parallel.
Regards, Martin
