Defragging tables and clustering
Posted in 1994
We frequently have to defrag large tables, and sometimes these tables contain foriegn keys. Rather than dropping and reloading the table it is sometimes desirable to reindex to cluster. My question is this: If there is enough FREE space immediately before and after the first extent (in tbcheck -pe) of the table to cluster, will Online cluster the table there? It's important not to put this table on any other disk, since they are allready loaded down enough. The table to cluster: Table Name Owner # Extents Pg Alloc KB Alloc -------------------- ------- --------- -------- -------- statement informix 10 199214 796856 The section of dbspace in question looks like: Disk usage for Chunk 6 Start Length ------------------------------------------- --------- --------- ba:collect.coll_act_max 10622 56 FREE 10678 5 FREE 10683 80680 ba:informix.statement 91363 88192 FREE 10683 80680 1. I need both the FREE space before and after this table 2. There is no other FREE space large enough in the dbspace for this table to go to. -- / __ \\/ /__ ___ / /_____ ____ ____ ___ Ed Hobbs / /_/ / / _ \\/ __/ __/ ___/ __ \\/ __ `__ \\ Database Administrator / __ / / __/ / / /_/ /__/ /_/ / / / / / / Alert Centre, Inc. /_/ /_/_/\\___/_/ \\_(_)___/\\____/_/ /_/ /_/ ewh@alert.com/(303)488-7636
