RE: XPS - checking indexes and dbspaces
Posted in 2009
Larry asked how to do the equivalent of IDS oncheck on XPS 8.2 under AIX, and whether onutil can check all indexes/dbspaces at once or must be run per object. John Miller said checks are usually done per database or per table via onutil, and mentioned an IIUG shell script that converts oncheck commands to onutil ones, but no one supplied its name or an onutil manual. Larry then ran 'check index and data on database' and got consistency failures ('missing in b-tree', 'missing in table', interrupted ISAM call) and asked how to interpret and repair them; no answer or resolution is recorded.

Is there a good guide for XPS 8.2 running on AIX for doing the equivalent of onchecks in IDS? I looked at the admin guide and it was not very clear. I need to check all indexes and dbspaces and tablespaces. Can I do general onutil commands or do I have to run one for each index or one for each dbspace, etc? An explanation would be great. Larry
You can do it several ways, by database and table are the
two most common, but the onutil manual should help. Also
I believe on the IIUG site there is a shell scrip that converts
oncheck commands to onutil commands.

Does anyone have any idea what the name of the script that John referenced
is? I am having trouble finding something.

Where can I get an "Onutil" manual? All I have found so far are Admin and
Reference guides.

I was able to do:
onutil
check index and data on database
On received a few errors. I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right
direction on knowing what the errors are telling me and possible examples on
how to fix them.
