This means that we/they/you/us won't get the luxury to waste precious ad-space on fluff and high-level bullshit. If the geeks don't get the message, it doesn't matter. This is who management turns to for the final decision anyway. There probably won't ever be a series of ads, the most we could ever hope for is one ad. I've yet to see any kind of "campaign"--in fact I think the last series of any kind of marketing was back in the mid-1990's or earlier, sans Phil White and Sun co-op'ing on advertising with Informix. So to think that there could possibly be any kind of real marketing or real campaign is a pipe-dream for me, which would allow that luxury of wasted, high-level fluff ads to executives, and maybe one or two technology ads that actually stand up to the competition. I would rather they put out a geek-style ad that can at least get the more detailed, salient, technology points across, allowing developers and DBAs to drink the kool-aid and push it up from the bottom. This is what Microsoft does, and it works. Management is going to defer to the geeks anyway, why not put that one shot, that one bullet on target.

That may have been true, once, but I doubt it is true for the most part, anyway. More and more, the pointy-haired bosses make the decisions and we geeks just get to implement their brilliant design. When they want advice, they turn to consultants. (As the world is a very big place, the following is for any one does not get the reference to PHB: http://dilbert.com/comics/dilbert/archive/images/dilbert2005050209268.jpg ) One shot will not do it. Period. It does not take a marketing genius to understand that Informix products are not the sort that will sell with one exposure, but for those who want to decide for themselves, simply google "Effective Frequency": http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Effective+Frequency%22 Sincerely, Christopher Coleman President Kansas City Informix Users Group www.iiug.org/kciug Database Analyst Medication Management Mediware Information Systems, Inc.
