Back to CLI / OBDC question

I guess I'm a little confused. I don't think anything is running on the server-side that would accept TCP/IP requests to connect to the ODBC driver. I downloaded the client SDK, but that doesn't contain the necessary server components. I am running Informix SE 7.2.1 on SCO. How can I get up and running with ODBC? Is it, perhaps, already running? If so, what port number would I use? Thanks! Ryan Kistenmacher Friendswood Independent School District Friendswood, Texas ----Original Message---- Informix ODBC driver replaces the CLI driver that used to be shipped until few years ago. It is part of the Informix Client-SDK. You should be able to connect to your SE engine from Microsoft Access using the ODBC driver. You wouldn't need any server-side programs/setup for being able to connect. I'm new to this list, and I am looking for help accessing my Informix databases through ODBC. I am running Informix SE 7.2.1 on SCO. I'm looking for both the server-side programs and client-side programs required to access my Informix data from, for example, Microsoft Access on a PC. I have heard of a program called CLI (v. 2.8 and 3.3), but am not sure where to obtain it or how to set it up. I own an Informix SDK, just in case it's in there. Any help or advice you could offer would be great! Thanks! You should be running $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd to listen to network connections. You should not be running SE 7.21 any more - it pre-dates Y2K. However, if it is working for you, so be it. (If it was IDS 7.21, I'd be much hotter on your case to get it upgraded.) Ideally, upgrade to 7.25 or later. > How can I get up and running with ODBC? Is it, perhaps, already > running? If so, what port number would I use? You configure the port number - and tell the daemon which one to listen to. By default, it assumes the service name is sqlexec. > ----Original Message---- > Informix ODBC driver replaces the CLI driver that used to be shipped until few years ago. > It is part of the Informix Client-SDK. > You should be able to connect to your SE engine from Microsoft Access using the ODBC driver. > You wouldn't need any server-side programs/setup for being able to connect. > > Regards, > Kanchana Padmanabhan > > Software Engineer > R&D - IBM Data Management Group > 11200 Lakeview, Lenexa, KS 66219 > Tel: 913 599 8674 t/l : 337 8674 Fax: 913 599 7260 > > Ryan Kistenmacher <informixer@kistenet.com> > > > Ryan Kistenmacher <informixer@kistenet.com> wrote: > > Hello everyone!
