Updates work fine. Several things to watch for:
1) Install the new software in a new subdirectory so you can easily
downgrade and return to the original software if you need to.
2) Take a level 0 archive before trying the inplace upgrade.
3) The upgrade will fail if there have been any tables altered inplace
(in 7.22 that meant mainly appending columns to a table). You can
check this with onstat -pT for each table the Table Version report will
show only version zero (0) if it is safe. If any other version, or
multiple versions, are reported update every row in the table with:
UPDATE <table> SET some_column = some_column;
Effectively updating each row with its own data. This will rewrite all
rows with the new schema version of the table.
4) Make sure you have room in rootdbs for the slightly larger SYSMASTER
and SYSUTILS databases.
Then just shutdown 7.22, copy (and update) the ONCONFIG and sqlhosts
files to the new INFORMIXDIR/etc, reset INFORMIXDIR for yourself and
for all local clients and bring up 7.30.
