Well, I suppose you could redefine the SQLCA structure so that the sqlerrm string was longer than 72 characters (including trailing ASCII NUL '\\0')... Other than that, using a table of some sort seems about right, as Christian Brauer suggested. You might return the ID string in the 'short' message, and encode the date, time, and ID string and long message in the secondary table.
