Is there any reason *not* to go 64-bit?

We are getting ready to enter a support contract on our Informix installation that will allow us to move to 64-bit 9.4 if we want to. Since about 90% of our Perl work is done through DBI/DBD and from what I can tell, we need to have Perl and the CSDK in the same ELFCLASS, this might be the best time to move completely over to 64-bit for a bit of ease in compiling new packages. I do not really expect better performance on 64-Bit Informix -- bit I am interested to hear how well the Jonathan Leffler's DBD::Informix module works with 64Bit Informix 9.4/CSDK 2.8.1/Perl 5.8.0/gcc 3.3. We are running on a Sun V880 with Solaris 9. Is there any reason to stay back at 32-bit? Any reason at all? I expect to be able to access remote servers no matter what their "bit-ness." -- DCP
64-bit pointers are larger than 32-bit pointers. Therefor, the 64-bit software will require more memory than 32-bit software. The memory requirements should be considered in the switch to 64bit.
