IFX_NETBUF_PVTPOOL_SIZE

I was reading Performance guide and came accross
IFX_NETBUF_PVTPOOL_SIZE, which seems to be very interesting. I have
some questions:
1. Is this pool used by Informix to store incoming or outgoing data
from application clients.
2. So, what happens if client is trying to send large blob say 2 MB or
10 MB, how does informix receives the data, is it always in 4k chunks.
Does it help if in sqlhosts for option 'b' higher size is specified.
3. How to determine if IFX_NETBUF_PVTPOOL_SIZE should be set to and
how much to set to. I looked at onstat -g ntu but didn't get much out
of it. I know this question is probably based on the current situation
but I am looking for something that tells me how to determine the
correct size, or if at all I should consider increasing this size.
4. Is it better to use private pool than using global pool ?
