Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Obnoxio The Clown shared a Personal Data Guardianship Code on data privacy and security. Ian Michael Gumby said it was on topic, noted privacy laws differ by country, and advised being paranoid and auditing any cloud environment. Richard Kofler made a sarcastic remark about cloud computing, and Gumby compared it to leased shared mainframes. No technical answer; general discussion.

This really isn't off topic and its really, really an important issue.
Unfortunately because different countries have different privacy and
data protection laws, your milage will vary.
I would say that its best to be paranoid and to do the most you can to
protect your data.

Just to throw some sarcastic comment onto the brand new hype named cloud
computing (nah - not the weather forecast)
If the cloud comes near and you finally see that there are clouds and
they all dark grey - who will protect my lil cloud from the lightnings
of the thunderstorm?

Well I've always wondered what everyone was talking about when they hyped the cloud.
IMHO I've always viewed this as going back to the business model of the leased or shared mainframe for SMBs that couldn't afford their own mainframe and/or IT Staff. (Timenet ring a bell?)
Its as if history is repeating itself. Its now not the cost of the hardware, but the cost of the network access that is killer.
Of course depending on who you talk with, the cost of going to a 'cloud' could be more expensive in the long run.
But getting back on target, I have to think that under any privacy concerns one would have to perform an audit of the cloud environment.
