RE: Crystal reports class libraries and NE 3.0
Posted in 1997
I want to update everyone with the progress on this problem I was having. Taking David's advice, I downloaded the NewEra3.0 libraries from Crystal. They can be found at www.img.seagatesoftware.com. Click on "What's Hot?", then keep clicking on the NewEra links until you reach the download. I downloaded the files and started compiling my project again. I was missing the "crpe.h" header file, which I copied from crw/informix/incl. I started re-compiling again, and got errors. I called Crystal tech support, and that said to copy the "crpe.h" header file from "crw" and not under the crw/informix subdirectory. I did that and everything compiled fine. I haven't tried running it yet, but wanted all to know the correct "crpe.h" file to use and the location of the download on the web. Thanks for all the help! -- Candy McCall (candym@olcinc.com) ---------- From: David Conn Sent: Monday, July 21, 1997 2:57 AM To: 'Informix List' Subject: RE: Crystal reports class libraries and NE 3.0 Hi All Candy McCall Wrote> >>I need some help on compiling the Crystal Report Class. I do have >>crep32m.lib included as a libraray in the "crpe" component. > Hi Candy, I had the same mission with the class. First of all the class supplied with the crystal reports 5 CD, does not work and I venture to say that it will not work until they revisit it. Secondly, the file crpe.h is decidedly out of date. I have hacked the 'C' header until it worked and chose to use the class supplied on the crystal reports web site. The class I used for New Era 3.0 can be found at http://www.img.seagatesoftware.com. You are looking for a file called necrpe.zip. This zip file has much of the same files in it that the class supplied on the CD has, however it seems to be more in line with the 'C' header file. The header did however require an extensive overhaul to fit the class. I am pleased to say that it now works quite well. Since this is not a binary group, I will not upset fellow informixers by posting these files to the list. If you would like me to mail the header directly to you, as well as the class I downloaded from seagate, just mail me and I will, along with instructions on how to compile the sucker. If anyone else would like the files, feel free to mail me. There is however, a catch to all this. I discovered a bug while trying to use the libraries I created in a multi-user environment. If one checks the project into the shared workspace, the libraries become available for use to all developers on the same network. These libraries belong to a different project from the ones already available to developers. If the developer( who created the project) uses the libraries and does not delete the project they were created under from his local host, they work fine and generate useable applications. As soon as someone (who does not have the project for the libraries on their local machine) adds these to a new project and clicks build, the builder complains that the project is not resident on the local host and suggest that you load it to the local machine. This seemed totally ridiculous to me, so I reported it to Informix and they recognized it as a bug. The builder does not want the whole project loaded onto the local host, but merely a component or single file. They are still looking into a workaround for me, and I hope to hear from them soon. In the mean time, loading the project onto the local host is a temporary solution. When I get some feedback from Informix I will post the workaround to the group, since there has been quite a bit of interest in the crystal class.
