"$(=,$(POSITION,$HTTP_USER_AGENT,MSIE),0)" in a condition tag has worked for me to tell if I am using Netscape or IE in the past. I've also used HTTP_REFERRER in the past without any problems. Are you saying using these values didn't work for you? Or are you asking if you can use these variables? Did you try? Did you get an error?
