Archecker - Can you skip over a log?
Posted in 2010
On IDS 11.50.FC5 / AIX 6.1, a table-level restore via ON-Bar/archecker loaded the table but hit an "unknown error" while rolling logical logs forward, before reaching the target timestamp. The poster asked whether a bad log could simply be skipped. One suggestion was to hand-edit a copy of the ixbar file to omit the offending log entry. IBM's John Miller replied that archecker starts from the level-0 archive's log ID and applies all logs up to the requested point: you can tell it to stop at a given time or log ID, but it cannot skip logs. No fix for the underlying error was recorded.

When doing a table level restore ... using onbar ... TSM ... The table
loads ... then the logs are applied. At a point prior to reaching the
timestamp, I'm getting an unknown error. My question ... is there a way
to skip over the offending log? I realize I might miss something from the
table that I'm restoring ... but am willing to take that risk ..
thanks for any and all help ...

I can't guarantee the results, but you could try to use a modified ixbar file
before launching archecker, omitting the offending log (saving the real one
obviously).

So .. archecker is doing it's work based on the ixbar file? not the
cooresponding database tables?

Archecker calls onbar, which is using ixbar file ... however, since this is
(warm restorelike) , it may bypass it ... can it hurt to try?

archecker will take the logid from the associated level 0 archive
then all logical log id up to the time you requested. Now you
can tell it to stop at any time (or logid), but archecker can not
skip log files by default.
