Stored Procedures slow for non-DBA users?
Posted in 1996
We have discovered a noticeable performance difference for stored procedures
between DBA and no-DBA users (Informix SE 7.12.UC1). The following code
should illustrate the behavior:
database stores7;
create procedure test_proc(arg float) returning float; return arg;
end procedure;
grant execute on test_proc to public;
{ query 1--no procedure, executes at same speed for DBA and non DBA
note that no join criteria are used so that a large enough result
set is returned to eliminate start-up time as a variable }
select c.customer_num, o.order_num, i.stock_num
from customer c, orders o, items i
{ query 2--procedure, executes much slower for non-DBA user (6 times
slower! }
select c.customer_num, o.order_num, i.stock_num, test_proc(i.total_price)
from customer c, orders o, items i
Has anybody else noticed this behavior?
