An idea would be to implement the input, input array and similar statements that are in 4GL but not in New Era for character terminals only at first. As I understand it the hard problem with these statements have been to implement them for use in a GUI environement. If these statements worked in a character only environement we could start using New Era. Then we could ourselvs go from there to a true gui interface by eliminating these statements as time permits. A GUI implementation of these statements might be nice for some users. However what I am saying here is that could be a later project if there is demand for it. If we could compile standard 4GL code with New Era for a CHUI we would probably use it. That might even lead us into using it for the long term for GUI development. Without this ability we are sure continouing on our path with a complete conversion to Java.
