Markus Bschorer asked whether an IDS 10 FC8 level 0 archive from Solaris 9 64-bit SPARC could be restored on Solaris 10 x86 64-bit. Neil Truby expected it not to work. Art Kagel confirmed it is not binary compatible because x86 is little-endian and SPARC big-endian, and agreed that SPARC to Linux x86 fails for the same reason.

Hi all,
does anybody know whether an IDS Level-0 Archive, taken from IDS 10 FC 8
under solaris 9 / 64 bit /sparc, can be restored on a IDS 10 FC 8 solaris 10
/ 64 bit / x86 ?
Or in a short form: Is sparc/64bit "IDS-compatible" to x86/64bit?
Thanks in advance for any answer!

Try it and please let us know.
I think that it will almost certainly NOT work.

No, not binary compatible at all. The x86 platform is little-endian
integers and floats while Sparc is big-endian.

So SPARC-> Linux x86 would not work for exactly the same reason?
