Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
PN asked whether Informix SE was dead. Jonathan Leffler said SE is still available with little active development, and a business case could get it ported to a missing platform. Fred Pratt said SE could have rivalled MySQL; Neil Truby disagreed, saying it needed heavy development and IBM would not maintain three databases. Opinion, no firm roadmap.

There is no fate but what we make ourselves.

Informix SE is still available, in general. There isn't much active
development of the product - but it is still available. If it is not
available on a particular platform that you need it on, you might have
to make a business case for us putting it where you need it. But it
exists and is as stable a product as you could hope to come across.

SE could have had MySQL's market share if not for some very short-sighted
decision-makers. They decided they wanted today's dime instead of a chance
for tomorrow's dollar. SE could have been a contenda.

Really?
As I see it Standard Engine would have needed a lot of development to bring
it up to the standards that MySQL is able to set today.
Since IBM finds it hard to - as it sees it - disregard analyst's advice and
maintain two rather than one database product, cold it really have justice
to three?
I think not.
