onstat -g ath
Posted in 2006
Marco asked where the "status" column of onstat -g ath is documented, puzzled that all sqlexec threads showed "cond wait netnorm" while onstat -g sql showed plenty of active SQL. Madison Pruet explained that cond wait netnorm simply means the thread is waiting for network traffic from the client (e.g. an ACK or next request) and that -g ath and -g sql are unrelated views. Philippe Pignon added that it is normal, not a performance symptom, and pointed to oninit.com's onstat reference. Marco then said his real issue is the server appearing to hang and asked how to find the culprit thread; no answer to that is recorded.

Where I can found a documentation for the column "status" of this output?
example: cond wait netnorm
on a other screen with "onstat -g sql [sid] -r 2" I see many SQL command.

There is no direct relationship between onstat -g ath and onstat -g sql=
.
The netnorm condition does NOT mean that the server is waiting for an s=
ql
statement to be issued, it simply means that the server is waiting for =
some
network traffic from the client. It might, for instance, mean that the=
server is waiting to receive an ACK that the client received the last
buffer which was transmitted to it, or it might be waiting for the clie=
nt
to request the next buffer.
onstat -g sql shows the last and current statements, but it does not sh=ow
the the network traffic between the server and the client as the statem=
ent
is being executed.
cond netnorm simply means that the server is waiting for some network
traffic from the client.

Hi Marco,
"Condition wait" on netnorm is a normal behaviour of IDS and is not sym=
ptom
of performance problem.
You said that you have many SQL running. Well, fine : your IDS works !
So, I don't understand what is your problem : users complain about resp=
ond
time ? your IDS hangs ? NT resources are full ?
About your initial question, see this URL :

Regards.

mean to found the running thread, but all thread are cont wait netnorm.
So how I found this tread?
