Need Info on INET for Unix
Posted in 1994
We have a UNIX client-server application with Informix running on the host computeraccessed via esql only, and a series of workstations on an ethernet currently caching data with a cheapo flat file DBMS called c-tree. This has led to a lot of special purpose distribution software, not to mention different intefaces between appl. software and the databases. We are considering buying INET for the workstations and are interested in the experiences of any other organizations that have tried something similar. E.G., (1) what is the performance like? (2) does it do data caching? (3) if some of our WSs move to a low speed line (say 56kb), will INET choke? (4) are there installation problems? (5) are there any problems migrating an existing database to this architecture? (6) does WS doing esql calls "think" it's in the host? Thanks for any inputs. (BTW, we're running ver 4.0).
